Portugal, officially known as the Portuguese Republic, is a nation located on the Iberian Peninsula in Southwestern Europe. Renowned for its rich history and cultural heritage, it is home to the westernmost point of continental Europe. Portugal shares its borders with Spain to the north and east, where it has the longest uninterrupted border within the European Union. To the south and west lies the expansive North Atlantic Ocean, which has historically played a crucial role in its maritime voyages and explorations.

To the west and southwest are the picturesque Macaronesian archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira, recognized as the two autonomous regions of Portugal. The capital city, Lisbon, is not only the largest urban center but also a vibrant hub of culture, while Porto, known for its port wine, holds the distinction of being the only other significant metropolitan area in the country.
