Belgium, officially known as the Kingdom of Belgium, is a vibrant country located in Northwestern Europe. It occupies a coastal lowland area commonly referred to as the Low Countries, characterized by its flat terrain and extensive waterways. Belgium shares its borders with the Netherlands to the north, Germany to the east, Luxembourg to the southeast, France to the south, and the North Sea to the west.

Covering an area of approximately 30,689 square kilometers (11,849 square miles), Belgium is home to a diverse population exceeding 11.7 million residents. This results in a notable population density of 383 inhabitants per square kilometer (990 per square mile), which ranks Belgium 22nd globally and sixth within Europe.The capital city, Brussels, is not only the administrative center of Belgium but also a significant hub for European politics, hosting numerous international institutions, including the European Union headquarters and NATO.
